This year was a special year to mark the 100th anniversary of the ending of of the First World War.

The Memorial service on 11th November was held in the Parish Hall because it was built as a memorial to the men from Hexhamshire who died.

Class 2 helped decorate the hall for the occasion. We made wall hangings of two scenes from the trenches ...

... and a picture of what the battlefields looked like a year after the war. Poppies were the first flowers to bloom.

Class 2 and Craft club made poppy cascades, Class 1 made poppy wreaths, and the Toddler group made big poppies.

The poppies were placed under and around the plaque which had the names of the fallen from Hexhamshire.

It was lovely to be able to take part in the service, and to see it attended by so many members of our community.

All the children of the Shire, from toddlers to the oldest pupils, contributed to the lovely display of poppies.

The children thoroughly enjoyed ringing St Helen's Church bell afterwards, as a reminder of the Armistice Day peals of celebration.
